A VOICE LOOKING FOR ITS ECHO
A poem by George Farah
Translated from Arabic by Farid Farah
<>
My path was thorny when the darkness fell
I kept going with no worry, without emitting sighs...
I kept on my way, despite that I could not see the road
Because of my faith that someday I shall reach its end.
What night has no dawn or a morning to follow?
Watch for my dawn in the horizon, perhaps it is emerging, and coming
into
sight.
Where are my friends who accompanied my journey from the start?
Where are they who said: go forth, we have no other way?
The thorns and darkness frightened them, thus they turned away... Oh my
friends!
I found myself all alone when they left in all directions.
My shadow left me, what did hide my shadow?
I am about to reach my destination, but I am tired and my body is
exhausted.
Help me to step toward the dawn to meet its splendor
My night is no more frightening, so is its darkness...
Pick up your remnants brothers, the night is ending,
And come forth to welcome the light whose glory we missed so much...
Have I addressed a people who care about the taste of life?
Or did I become a roaming voice looking for its echo?>
